How to fix Reverse Osmosis Membrane from Common Failure?
- When your water source is extremely hard.
When the feed water is very hard, this will clog up the membrane with heavy calcification.
Solution: Adding a water softener will help in reducing the premature failure.
- Replace Pre-filters / Inline Filters as frequently as needed:
Carry forward of carbon to Membranes happens on using Inferior Quality Carbon Filters. Further, these filters allow Chlorine to pass through and damage the membrane…
Solution: Use good quality Inline Filters & Pre filters.
Replace Pre filters & Inline Filters at regular Intervals.
- When your water source contains certain micro-organism:
Micro-organism in the feed water forms a slimy film which covers up the membrane’s surface and will reduce the life of the membrane.
Solution: In this case, adding a UV light could help extend the membrane’s life.
- Drain water flow restricted or blocked:
If the drain water flow is blocked then the system will not be able to expel unwanted contaminants from the RO membrane. This can cause the membrane to clog and reduce its life prematurely.
Solution: Please check & replace FR while replacing Membrane and make sure the drain water line is unhindered.
- Over drawing & Usage of Water:
Over usage and drawing more water from the Water Purifier than the design capacity can reduce the life of the Membrane.
Solution: Check & Restrict the usage or go for additional capacity
- Temperature of Feed Water:
Exposing Membranes to High Temperature will damage the surface. During Summer, the feed water temperature may exceed 40 to 45 deg Centigrade which can damage the Membrane and reduce its life.
Solution: Avoid usage of Water Purifier Units during daytime.
- Inlet Pressure:
Membranes need a minimum Inlet Pressure for its performance. The Optimum Pressure required is 75 to 80 PSI for optimum performance. If the required inlet pressure is not available then the life of the Membrane is reduced.
Solution: Make sure that the RO Pump delivers the correct Pressure.
